My Lip Care Routine

I got a request from an aspiring beauty blogger on this subject and the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much my nightly lip care routine means to me. I'm a lip product junkie, through and through. I don't care whether we're talking about a cheap lip balm or a high-end liquid lipstick; I want it. But the more lip swatches I do for this websiteand for my own daily makeupthe drier my lips get, especially when I'm using a matte liquid lipstick like the Kylie Cosmetics line. Since I just placed a pretty massive liquid lipstick order, I thought this would be a good time for me to reflect on my lip care routine, and share it with all of you. Will all the lippie lovers raise their hands?!

I wear a lip product every single day, even if I'm sitting at home with my daughter. Some products that are longer lasting, like the Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks, I always remove with a cotton pad covered in coconut oil. If you try to remove products like these without an oil-based remover, you will end up drying out your lips and causing damage from too much rubbing. Most of the time, I remove all of my lip products this way. The coconut oil not only removes the makeup, it nourishes your lips.

After my lips are bare, I dab my lips with a warm, damp wash cloth and then use my fingers to rub a small bead of the above scrub onto my lips. This scrub is a homemade creation of 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon white sugar, and a drop of vanilla extract. I store mine in a breastmilk container and leave it at room temperature. Once a week, I run a clean toothbrush over my lips for extra exfoliation. Then I simply rinse it off in the shower.

After I get out of the shower, I like to use a heavy duty lip balm. The one I've been loving lately is the OraLabs Essential Lip Natural balm in Vanilla Bean. It's very thick and stays on while I sleep. During the day, I've been using Red Apple Lipstick's Rallye Balm since it's more lightweight and works well under my regular lipsticks. I can't decide whether to purchase the full-size or use something else.

That's really all I do. It's simple, yet effective. What do you do to keep your lips moisturized?
